Local Authors

We love local stories.

One of our favorite parts of being an independent bookshop is getting to connect with authors from our own community and surrounding areas. We’re proud to dedicate shelf space to local authors and love discovering new books to consider for the shop!

Because Fern & Fable is a small shop with limited shelf space, we aren’t able to accept every title submitted to us. All books are reviewed before being added to our shelves, and availability may change based on space, customer interest, and current inventory.

We’d love to hear from you! Before reaching out, there are a few things to know:

  • We purchase books wholesale only. We do not currently accept books on consignment.

  • Authors/publishers are welcome to provide their established wholesale pricing. If no wholesale price has been established, our standard purchase price is 50% of the book’s retail price. For example, a book retailing for $20 would have a wholesale price of $10 per copy.

  • Retail pricing should be reasonably consistent across channels so our customers can shop locally without a significant price disadvantage.

  • We typically purchase up to 3 copies of a title at a time to start. Additional copies may be reordered based on sales and demand.

  • We prioritize authors from Cecil County and the surrounding region.

  • Books must have a clearly established retail price and be in new, retail-ready condition.

  • Submission does not guarantee placement in the shop. We consider genre, content, quality, customer interest, current inventory, and available shelf space when making selections.

  • Placement and display location within the shop are determined by Fern & Fable and may change over time.

  • Acceptance of one title does not automatically mean we can carry an author’s full catalog.

  • Please do not drop off unsolicited books or review copies at the shop. We ask that authors contact us first using the information below.

How to Submit Your Book

Please complete the form below. In the “Book Details” field, please include:

  • Book title(s)

  • Genre/intended audience

  • Brief description

  • Retail price / wholesale price

  • ISBN, if applicable

  • Publication date

  • How books are supplied (direct from author, Ingram, etc.)

  • A link to your website or book information, if available

We’ll review your information and reach out if we think your title may be a good fit for our shelves.

A Few More Things

Being stocked at Fern & Fable does not guarantee a particular number of sales or length of time on our shelves. As a small shop, we regularly adjust our inventory based on what our customers are looking for and what is selling.

We also occasionally host author events, signings, special collections, and other local-author features. These opportunities are considered separately based on our schedule, available space, and what we think will be a good fit for our customers.
